Service-Area Businesses and Addresses: The Rule That Suspends Plumbers, Cleaners and Electricians

If you travel to your customers, Google expects you to hide your address and list a service area instead. Getting this wrong is one of the most common reasons local trades lose their profile.

Why showing the address is a problem

Google shows an address on Maps as a place customers can visit. If customers cannot visit, the address is misleading, and reviewers treat it as a guideline breach.

Setting the service area

Choose areas you genuinely serve. Google caps how far a service area should reach, and a listing that claims an entire region from one small base can look manipulative.

Hybrid businesses

If you have a staffed location customers can visit during business hours and you also travel, you can show both the address and a service area. The location must actually be staffed and signed.

If you have already been suspended

Hide the address, correct the service area and remove any keywords from the name before filing. Then submit documents that prove the business is registered and operating from that base.
