Why Google Suspends Business Profiles (and How to Get Yours Back)

A Business Profile suspension usually arrives without a clear explanation. The listing drops off Maps, or the dashboard stops letting you edit. Knowing why it happened is the difference between a successful reinstatement and a rejected appeal.

Check which kind of suspension you have

Search your business name on Google Maps. If the listing is gone, Google has decided the business itself does not meet its guidelines. If the listing is visible but you cannot manage it, the problem is usually with the account or the way the listing is managed.

Address problems come first

Google expects a real location where the business operates or meets customers. Virtual offices, mailbox addresses and shared coworking desks are the most frequent triggers we see. Service-area businesses that display a home address as a storefront come a close second.

Naming and duplicate issues

Adding a city or service to your name, such as "Smith Plumbing Emergency Plumber Denver", breaches the guidelines unless it is your registered trading name. Multiple profiles for the same location tend to be flagged together, and so do several businesses sharing one suite.

What to do before appealing

  1. Do not create a replacement listing. It counts as a duplicate.
  2. Compare every field of the listing against Google's Business Profile guidelines.
  3. Fix the name, address display, categories and website consistency.
  4. Collect proof of the business at that address: registration, utility bill, lease, signage photos.
  5. Submit one well-documented reinstatement request rather than several quick ones.
